On June 13, 2014 Paul collapsed at his home. Steve immediately called 911 and Paul was transported to Meritus Medical Center. Upon arrival at the hospital it was discovered that Paul was having a major stroke. Physician's there acted quickly and Paul was given a drug called TPA to dissolve the blood clot that caused the stroke. Paul was then admitted to the hospital and evaluated throughout his stay for damages caused by the stroke. Initially Paul lost control of his entire right side. His speech was most affected and he was unable to speak at all. He is now home and is undergoing intensive physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. His physician expects his recovery to be long and Paul has been told that it could be up to one year before his speech would become more normal. He is not able to work during this time.
Although Paul has health insurance his policy has a $10,000 deductible and then only pays a portion of his medical bills. It also does NOT cover any of his therapy. His medical bills are arriving daily and could exceed over $100,000 in out-of-pocket expenses. You can only imagine the stress this has added to Paul and Steve in an already extremely stressful situation.
As most of you know, Paul has worked very hard his entire life. But when faced with a life changing medical event, it is no longer possible for him to work. This means that Paul and Steve have lost an entire income and are now faced with mounting medical bills.
Giving back has always been a way of life for Paul Deputy. Being engaged in building a strong and growing community has been something Paul truly believe's in. Paul has worked hard to support charity events and even hosts events at The Gourmet Goat, which he and Steve own. It is time for us to give back to Paul for all he has done for each of us and for our community. Please consider making a secure contribution to help cover Paul's medical bills. He would be the first to do the same for us. We now have an opportunity to embrace him and show him the love we all have for him.
Please continue to visit Paul's website and offer words of encouragement and also to monitor Paul's progress. Please become part of his recovery and give him all the support he deserves. All contributions are greatly appreciated!!
Paul and Steve have been very supportive of New Light MCC and we will be taking a special collection for Paul's Medical Fund on Sunday, August 10th. If you can't make it that day please visit the link in this article and help out.
The Moderator Nominating Committee
MCC FlameIn two years at the MCC General Conference in Victoria, British Columbia, congregants and clergy will elect our next worldwide leader. The Moderator Nominating Committee asks for your help:
1.  Provide feedback. Share your thoughts about the characteristics of, opportunities for, and challenges facing the next MCC Moderator.
3. Hold the Moderator Nominating Committee in your prayers as they shepherd the process over the next two years.
Pastor's Business Card
A new pastor was visiting in the homes of his parishioners. At one
house it seemed obvious that someone was at home, but no answer came to his repeated knocks at the door.
Therefore, he took out a business card and wrote 'Revelation 3:20' on the back of it and stuck it in the door.
When the offering was processed the following Sunday, he found that his card had been returned. Added to it was this cryptic message, 'Genesis 3:10.'

Reaching for his Bible to check out the citation, he broke up in gales
of laughter. Revelation 3:20 begins 'Behold, I stand at the door and
knock.' Genesis 3:10 reads, 'I heard your voice in the garden and I
was afraid for I was naked.'

Until next month...

Thank you New Light MCCers for the gifts and talents you bring to our church body so that we might take the message of God's love into our community, our country, and our world!

Religion is a compass, not a harness, let your heart explore.  You have the freedom to break the chains of religion that might have held you captive so you can find the YOU that God intended you to be!
